The first service on the GCR diesel event was run by the recently returned Class 101 DMU. It is seen here as it stands at Leicester North. The day was bitterly cold and the working heat of this train was a welcome start

After the 3 of us suffered at Quorn awaiting D123 for what should have been a 4 minute connection, we decided to head out to Kinchley Lane, where only the idiotic member of the family would get cold waiting for the train, as Josh and Gemma lived it up in the warm car! This is the first public run on the GCR of the steam heat van, seen behind the peak and acquired from Ireland after it's withdrawal and the fitment of correct sized bogies. I don't know of this is also the first preserved service in the UK to have a steam heat van provided

Here we see BR Standard Class 2 78019 providing steam heat and with steam seemingly free to leave any hole as well as the chimney too. Later on in the day the same train at the same location and nothing beyond the first driving wheels were visible due to leaking steam
